How to prepare these Gourmet Sandwich Recipes
Since these gourmet sandwich recipes are going to be prepared the same way, I will give general instructions that can be applied to both. The only real difference between the two are that the onions in the second sandwich will need to be caramelized before they are put in the sandwich. I will add a “how to caramelize onions” at the bottom of the post.
First things first and the Secret to making this sandwich gourmet is to lightly toast your bread before you assemble your sandwich.
- Lightly toast your bread
- spread your mayo and or dijon on both the top and the bottom of your sandwich
- thinly slice your apple/tomatoes. (Thin enough that they give you a little crunch but thin enough that your sandwich doesn’t fall apart when holding it)
- Add all components of your sandwich
- Heat up a frying pan to medium high with a little butter in it
- Fry your sandwich like you’re making a grilled cheese
Voila! Gourmet Sandwich Recipes Complete
Now as promised – Here is a key step to making sure your onions are as tasty as possible. Caramelize them!
Cut thin slices of your onion. You can either leave them round or cut them into half moon slices.
You’ll want to put the into a pan on medium high and leave them alone for several minutes. Let them sweat! You do not need to add butter, oil or salt to these onions. That is everyone’s biggest mistake. Let them do their thing. Once they are sizzling and have been creating a little bit of crisp, add a TINY bit of water to your pan and move them around while getting all of the brown bits off the pan and into the onions. They should turn brown.
Now that that is complete, you may choose to add a TINY bit or butter and or a TINY bit of brown sugar. Those steps are both optional as the onions taste great as they are.
